2. Which bow is suitable for me?

Which bow is suitable for me?

Man Kung offers a wide variety of archery bows. No matter if you're looking for an archery bow for a young teen or a seasoned archer, Man Kung has got you covered.
It can be difficult to know which archery bow one should go for, especially if you're just starting out. In general, there are a few things to keep in mind to make your choice easier:

Adjusting bows
Do you want to adjust the bow without our help? A lot of our models have adjustable draw weight and draw length, but not all models can easily be adjusted on your own. Some require a bow press.

Age group
Each model has a minimum recommended age, which differs per model. Some models are too powerful to safely recommend to children below 10, 12 or 16. Minors should always be supervised when using archery bows.

Physique: Length and power
Your length determines what draw length you need. Generally the following formula is used:
Height archer in cm/ 2,54 / 2,5  = draw length
Alternatively, you can do so by measuring your wingspan: outstretch your arms and measure the distance between the farthest fingertips (in cm). Divide this number by 2,5 and add 1 and 3/4th inches.

Some archery bows can be quite heavy to operate. When selecting a bow suitable for you, it's important to consider your own fitness/strength level. If you're uncertain about your own limits, always select one with a lower or adjustable draw weight. Using bows that are too heavy for you may result in injuries, but the same is true if you're using a heavy bow without the right technique. When you're doubting about your own strength or if you're inexperienced, first go for an adjustable bow and start out at its lightest draw weight.

Some suggestions

  • For young teens, 10 to 14, the Man Kung MK-CB015BK is a great starter model. While this model is not adjustable, it's a very light model (499 grams) with a low draw weight (12 LBS). Under supervision, it's a safe model to learn the archery basics.
  • For teens of 12 to 16 years, the Man Kung MK-CBK1-BK Besra is most suitable. It's available in four different colours and offers a great range of adaptability: the draw length can be adjusted from 48,3 to 52,1 cm (19,0 to 20,5 inch), just like its draw weight can be adjusted from 19 to 25 LBS. It's an amazing bow that can grow with the teen. A bow press is necessary to adjust this bow.
  • For the late teens of 16 and older, we recommend the Man Kung MK-CB50BK Aurora. This model is incredibly flexible as well: its draw length is adjustable from 48,3 to 73,7 cm (19 to 29 inch), and its draw weight is adjustable from 30 LBS to 55 LBS. It comes with a range of accessories as well.
  • While all previous models can also be used by adults, we highly recommend the Man Kung MK-CBA5BK Thorns for most adults. This model has an adjustable draw weight from 30 to 70 LBS, and adjustable draw length from 48,3 to 78,7 cm (19 to 31 inch). With its velocity of 300+ FPS / 91+ m/s (at 70 LBS) this model is among our strongest compound bows. Additionally, this model can be adjusted without a bow press.
