7. Selecting a Target

Selecting a Target

Selecting the right target is essential to prevent damage to your arrows and bolts. Using inappropriate targets, such as trees, wooden planks or concrete walls, can lead to significant damage as these surfaces do not absorb the impact effectively. This not only reduces the lifespan of your equipment but also incurs additional replacement costs.

Common Damage Types

  • Carbon Arrows/Bolts: These can split upon impact with hard surfaces.
  • Fiberglass Arrows/Bolts: Prone to snapping under excessive force.
  • Points and Vanes: Damage to these components can affect flight accuracy and performance.
  • Environmental: The arrow/bolt could shoot right through the target and hit objects, persons or animals behind it.

Recommendations for Suitable Targets

To maximize the lifespan of your arrows and bolts, we recommend using targets specifically designed for archery. These targets are engineered to absorb impact gradually, reducing stress on your equipment. Always ensure that the force of your archery bow or crossbow does not exceed the maximum FPS stated on the target. Exceeding this limit can damage the target and cause the bolt or arrow to penetrate through, risking damage to whatever is behind it. Using incorrect targets can also make it very difficult to remove the arrow/bolt afterwards; even if the shot itself didn't damage the arrow/bolt, the removal might.

Target Suggestions

  • For Lower Draw Weight Bows: The Eleven Start Target set is ideal for crossbows and archery bows like the MK-TCS2BK Alligator or the MK-CBK1-BK Besra.
  • Compact Target Bag: The Delta McKenzie Speed Bag Revolver target bag is lightweight at 6.8 kg and can withstand a max FPS of 525. It's easy to carry along.
  • Sturdy Models: For a more durable option, consider the Delta McKenzie Speedbag Crossbow Max. It is larger and heavier, offering a robust experience with a maximum FPS of 525 and features multiple printed targets for precise aiming.

Note: We recommend using an arrow puller to retrieve your arrows and bolts from your target. This makes it easier to remove them without bending or breaking the arrows / bolts.
